American Idol ratings dip- Who Or What is to blame?

With the knowledge that American Idol is sliding in their ratings this year, the theories abound have all targeted David Archuletta and his fans. First, I personally think that this theory is ludicrous. Are David A fans doing anymore then any other competitor’s fans? I do not think so. One could argue that competitors like Brooke White and Jason Castro may be the negatvie factors? Are they really? No, not even Brook White and Jason Castro is responsible for the ratings slide.

I think that American Idols ratings slide is combination of events and other televisions shows.

For the first time American Idol had competition on one of their slotted nights and were in direct competition with another show that enjoys high ratings. Big Brother 9 winter debut, eviction night did air at the same time as American Idol at 7pm. Then the hockey playoffs are an event that the different team’s fans would want to watch. Baseball has started which also draws a huge fan base and viewers. Then we have the news and following of the Presidential race that may be deemed as one of the most important races in American history. The potential to have America’s first black President and first women president has definitely given people something to talk about, debate, discuss and even argue about.

This above combined with the fact that Michael Johns had been eliminated far to early in the competition and now Carly Smithson left some Idol fans disgruntled and angry this year. Some of these fans may have chosen to tune out of the show for the rest of the season. Many Idol fans will usually stop watching the show once their favourite is eliminated.

I do not think that David A fans are doing anything uniquely different then anyone else’s fans. American Idol encourages fans to vote as much as they like. They have never wanted to do anything about over-voting; it will result in these types of eliminations. On the other hand, at the end, the right people have always won Idol Title, including Taylor Hicks.

Finally, a show that can boast that they enjoyed 45 million votes for the show is hardly doing poorly. American Idol will survive for the two years they have left to grace our screens. The buzz is that after 2010 show that will be it for American Idol and will not longer be aired.

In my opinion, neither David Archuletta nor his fans are to blame for the ratings slide. I really feel it a combination of the things above that has contributed to fewer viewers.

Mariah Carey Marries Actor-Rapper Nick Cannon

Mariah Carey is attempting a second chance at love. The diva married secretly among family and friends in a ceremony at Carey’s home in the Bahamas. This relationship and marriage has been one that has been held in close secrecy. Until two weeks ago, nobody even knew they were dating. Then Mariah was seen sporting a big beautiful diamond engagement ring a week ago.

When different media types tried to corner Nick Cannon, he just said they were good friends; in the meantime, Nick was keeping his secret wedding plans private.

Good for both of them. A marriage is sacred and only should include family and the bride and grooms closest friends. More and more we are seeing the famous plot to keep their private affairs away from the media types that will not give them a moment’s peace. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were able to have their wedding without having helicopters flying overhead, without having photographers hanging out of trees, trying to snap a picture and without the media reporting their every move leading up to their wedding.

Think about it this way folks, in our own marriages would we have been pleased to have the above happen to us. I think not! This type of media attention only serves to potentially ruin a persons wedding day.

Having said that, I know we all like these tidbits of information, but at times events like a wedding is personal, sacred and private.

Congratulations to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. I do wish your marriage to be everlasting, stable and loving.

The Blindside Continues- Immunity Played!

Survivor Micronesia may become known as the season of blindsides. Last night another blindside occurred and once more, the eliminated Survivor did not see it coming. Mary, Mikey, Joel, Eliza, Ozzie, Jason and now Alexis have all been blindsided causing their elimination from that game, nor did any of them see it coming. Viewers have seen three survivors leave because of injuries, Jonathan Penner, Chet Welch (asked to be voted out because of injury) and now James Clements had to leave because of injury in which he is on IV. We saw Kathleen opting to leave, because she was done. James Clements talks about his view of Kathleen, the game and the other women. He is quite funny, however when it came to Kathleen, he felt that the younger girls who are like children were telling a grown women what to do. James advised that at times he had to hold his tongue because of the game.

Five survivors remain, if things go according to how the ladies have planned, it looks like Amanda, Cerie and Pavarati will be in the final three. Eric is a factor because he can win immunity challenges.

This weeks Survivor was not without its surprises. James had to be removed from the game due to medical reasons. Amanda pulled one of the biggest blindsides since Survivor Fiji. It was beautifully played. I have to give it to Amanda, Cerie and Pavarati, they are badasses and these girls are outplaying their competitors. Control of the game seems to be in these three ladies hands.

Amanda went to exile island and did find the clue to where the hidden immunity idol was located, which was back at the camp. When Amanda arrived back, she said she did not have the immunity idol and could not find it. She even emptied her bag to prove to the survivors that she did not have the idol in her possession. Parvati made sure she told Amanda that the survivors were planning on voting her out and advised Amanda to find that idol. Cerie asked Amanda what she should do, make it a tie or let them vote as the other survivors had plotted. Amanda said no to let the vote go how it was suppose to go against her.

Eric made a blunder by going with the flow of who to vote out which was Amanda. Eric’s position only succeeded in pissing Amanda off with him. Amanda felt that when Eric needed her, she kept him in the game. Yet when she asked for his help because they were planning to vote her out, he clearly denied her of that help. Not only does this make things bad for Eric at the camp, but also makes him look bad in front of the jury. Even if Eric makes it to the end, his refusal to help Amanda may be a factor if he wins one million dollars or not.

Amanda, Pavarati and Cerie were all in on the blindside. If you watch the CBS unedited video on their website of the voting, when Cerie puts her vote in with Amanda’s name on it; she states that “we”(Amanda, Cerie and Parvati) are just going through the motion for appearance sake. When Amanda puts in her vote for Alexis, she says that she has the immunity. The acting that the three of them did was priceless. I really thought Amanda was done in and was going to be eliminated.

Alas, Amanda had other plans and as she said in episode eleven once Ozzie had been blindsided, it is game on, bring it on, and bring it on Amanda did. LMAO, I really enjoyed watching her knock Alexis out with that blindside, it was hysterical and thus the game has flipped once more.

This was one of the best played blindsides since Survivor Fiji  when Earl, Yau-man, Cassandra and Dreamz blindsided Mookie, Edgardo and Alex. Eric, Alexis and Natalie did not see it coming; the look on their faces was hysterical, priceless and memorable. Imagine they thought they had control of the game and poof, one little immunity idol well played, snatched their game from them and turned the game around. Now that is how the immunity and survivor is supposed to be played in my opinion.

The survivors reward challenge was potential time with the survivor’s loved ones. James’s father James Sr was so funny. He reminds some of us of either our fathers or grandfathers. When the survivors revealed that James was the one that they were less likely to invite to dinner. His father said, “What is that all about”. When Alexis cut down James final rope , James father quipped indignantly “Wait until I get home, we going to talk about her”. That was priceless; James Clement Sr is an old school witty man and I enjoyed watching his expressions and what he had to say. I just thought he was great and added some genuine humour to survivor.

I was really hoping that James would survive and be in the final three, unfortunately, his injury was far more serious and rightfully he had to be pulled from the game. His health and hand are more important then anything else. I hope that they have a few constellation prizes for the fan favourites. It would not be bad to see James and Ozzie win a prize as a constellation. That remains to be seen.

Next weeks survivor continues with the backstabbing and blindsides. The two fans left agree to be loyal to each other, only one stabs the other straight in their back.
