Oscar De La Renta Puts Down The First Lady’s American Fashion

Designer Oscar De La Renta put down First Lady Michelle Obama in her fashion choice for her summit visit at Buckingham palace. Mr De La Renta feels it is a fashion faux pas to wear *gasp* a sweater for a meeting with the Queen of England.

Mr De La Renta ” quipped in a haughty tone that ” The first lady, Michelle Obama has the audacity to favor wearing American fashion and design. How dare the first lady do this and not consult with De La Renta on what she should wear to events. How dare the first lady ” make an independent decision for herself, the nerve” ! How dare the first lady take the initiative to help champion and give the money to her own citizens instead of lining the greedy bulging pockets of designers like Mr. De La Renta. I think it is great that the first lady is conscious of what she is spending and putting the money back into American economy.

Come to think about it another famous lady used to do this for her country as well. Her name was the late great Princess Diana of Wales, she too often favored wearing English Design.
The fact is the first lady has great taste and class in her selection of clothes and she inspires many to dress well without going out of budget.
Psstt Oscar from what I am reading many people don’t care what you think. Further many comments have been that the first lady dresses with an economic strategy in mind, she is conscious of the taxpaying dollar. She is simply not interested in purchasing pricey clothing and further gouging and straining Americans pocketbooks anymore than it has been strained.

Furthermore, the first lady is not out for Hollywood Celeb she is the First Lady of the United States and dresses in a classy, tasteful manner that is becoming of a first lady. Sorry Oscar as much as you are renowned for your good sense of fashion, you dropped the ball with your uncalled for critique of the first lady’s good taste and fashion sense for herself. As one reader put it, ” if you don’t think you should wear a sweater to a formal gathering with the Queen, then don’t!

However, the first lady did look stunning, fabulous, classy and that of what is officially becoming of a first lady not a Hollywood starlet. I don’t think many people really appreciate you putting down the first lady. Further there is many more important things to worry about in today’s world besides whom is wearing a sweater and whom is not.

Perhaps Mr Oscar De La Renta, can consider designing some nice cloths for the impoverished children that need his fashion sense globally. A designer like Mr De La Renta could not only afford to give to a much needed cause but he could do it for next to nothing. It would be even better if he donated as a charitable measure out of the ” goodness and the generosity of his DE La Renta heart”!
Some comments from readers on the net are the following:
“To Mr. De La Renta: Grow up”
“Oscar’s input about the Obamas is not needed. His designs are not needed. The fashion industry is not needed. Let’s deal with things that matter.”
“Oscar, are you mad because she’s not wearing your clothes???”
“we applaud michelle obama’s fashion discretion in these struggling economic times. it is a breath of fresh air to see the first lady of the united states donning clothes that are more financially practical and responsible than have many of her first lady predecessors. wearing oscar de la renta and other high-end frocks would be a slap in the face to the masses of americans who could not afford such clothes even in the heartiest of financial climates. way to go michelle!”
“With the economical direction of our country current, I think it is outstanding that Mrs. Obama is not tripping down the high end fashion lane like Mr. de la Renta suggests.”
“Hey Oscar, I love the clothes you make. I have one of your ties and it is great. But when it comes to dimplomacy let me ask you a simple question:
When was the last time the Queen of England gave you a hug?
I thought so. So lets keep the second guessing to a minimum and not make a big deal about what she is wearing. Think about her like you are a citizen of the world and forget about fashion for a moment.”
